I've inspectet the transfer, and found that the cock gets into closed-possition (at least tas far as possible in it's direction) when I adjust the temperature down. Have anybody changed this cock/tap/faucet, or by other reasons knows it's part- number? Alternative parts might be interesting to, of course. Or maybe it's possible to change the gasket? Are you sure it is possible ? David. Usually this means that the "tap" or valve that controls the heater water is bypassing internally. I'll try to explain my though. Even if it is not designed for it, the heater radiator "eats" lots of calories from the engine cooling system : if you add a ball valve and close it, the calories won't get out of the engin cooling system anymore. I don't think you risk overheating by closing the heater radiator with a ball valve. And you can always open the the valve again and turn on the heating in case the engine gets too hot. /Aryan -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Aryan Schmitz http://www.123ignition.se/ aryan.schmitz@korridor.se Tel +46 8 720 19 40 Aspövägen 27 Fax +46 8 720 41 60 SE-125 40 ÄLVSJÖ GSM +46 70 749 66 84 Sweden ------------------------------------------------------------------ To: Volvo303@yahoogroups.com From: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Gr=F8nntass?= Date: Thu, 20 Oct 2005 14:50:44 +0200 (CEST) Subject: Re: [Volvo303] Re: Need to change temp-adjustment cock (front) Reply-To: Volvo303@yahoogroups.com David Touitou : > I'll try to explain my though. > Even if it is not designed for it, the heater radiator "eats" lots of > calories from the engine cooling system : if you add a ball valve and > close it, the calories won't get out of the engin cooling system > anymore. This is what the (normal) radiator is for. 4 years ago I drove a Volvo L3314N which got too warm. Then I turned on the heater in the rear to cool it down. Later I discovered that the reason was defect fan-belt, so neither the fan, generator or waterpump worked as supposed. Turning on the rear heater was rather efficient, but did only cure the symptom. There were a lot of them in Netherland, but there is a drawback. The price is 1325 NOK (about 166 euro / 225$), so maybe I'll simply mount another valve in adition like John. Or maybe there's another valve which'll fit? Another possibility is to take from a rusty C303, but I think it's big risk that it'll not be any bether. Christian
