1. 98 Oktan Bleifrei mit Bleizusatz-ersatz (kennen wir!) 2. 98 Oktan Bleifrei+ 10% Lacknaffa + 1% 2-Takt-Öl ( Lacknaffa scheint eine Art Petroleum zu sein ) 3. 95 Oktan Bleifrei + 10% E85 + 0,1% 2-Takt-Öl To: Volvo303@yahoogroups.com From: Aryan Schmitz Date: Thu, 10 Apr 2008 15:06:17 +0200 Subject: Re: [Volvo303] Unleaded 95 Octan Reply-To: Volvo303@yahoogroups.com >Btw since you and Aryan might be able to put this semi-official note >(came with a C3-series, intended for (recent) export to Sudan, not >sure whether civil or military, nor who wrote it, and when) in >Swedish context: >Ever seen these formula's before? > > >1. 98 octane leadfree with lead-additive > >2. 98 octane leadfree + 10% Lacknaffa + 1% 2-stroke oil >( Lacknaffa seems to be some kind of petroleum/kerosene/diesel? ) Lacknafta is turpentine (terpentine in dutch) of mineral origin. >3. 95 octane leadfree + 10% E85 + 0,1% 2-stroke oil Yes the 10% E85 (ca RON 105) raises the oktane rate of 95 to 98. The nice thing is that it does not raise its octane rate linear with the mixture but relativlly more at low levels ethanol. I would not bother with the 2-T oil and put in 10-15% E85 instead. Like you said VSR is not really a problem, pinking can be, hence the 98 octane or ethanol. /Aryan PS A good strong electronic ignition system with accurate timing not seldom eliminates, at least diminishes the risc of pinking too :-) -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Aryan Schmitz http://www.123ignition.se/ aryan.schmitz@korridor.se Tel +46 8 720 19 40 Aspövägen 27 Fax +46 8 720 41 60 SE-125 40 ÄLVSJÖ GSM +46 70 749 66 84 Sweden ------------------------------------------------------------------ To: Volvo303@yahoogroups.com From: "southhaven1997" Date: Sat, 13 Sep 2008 13:03:20 -0000 Subject: [Volvo303] Fuel Cat alternative to rebuilt head Reply-To: Volvo303@yahoogroups.com Does anyone have any experience with "Fuel Cat" pellets or in-line filters? How about those lead substitute fuel additives? I've been using Turtlewax CD2 figuring it couldn't hurt. However, I just looked up the MSDS -- it contains the following compounds: COMPONENT CAS NUMBER CONCENTRATION (wt %) Petroleum Naphtha 64742-88-7 50 - 60 Sodium Sulfonate Not determined 20 - 30 n-Nonane 00111-84-2 1 - 5 n-Octane 00111-65-9 1 =96 5 1,2,4-Trimethylbenzene 00095-63-6 1 =96 5 None of them seem to me likely to act as a lead substitute to prevent valve seat degradation. Maybe the Sodium Sulfonate? > > -Wes To answer my question about CD2 lead substitute: Naptha: aromatic hydrocarbon, octane booster Sodium Sulfonate: Emulsifier and detergent: http://tinyurl.com/6o948e n-Nonane: C9H20 -- another hydrocarbon, boosts octane n-Octane: C8H18 -- same 1,2,4-Trimethylbenzene: another aromatic octane booster. So, it will increase octane and reduce knocking, but give no lead/ other metal protection of the valves. All of the ingredients are in unleaded gas, so I'm probably doing no harm by using it, but as soon as I'm finished with the bottle I won't continue. Burning it in the engine is the best way to dispose of some potentially toxic compounds. :) Lots of good gas info here: http://www.faqs.org/faqs/autos/gasoline-faq/part2/preamble.html -W To: Volvo303@yahoogroups.com From: aryan.schmitz@korridor.se Date: Sat, 13 Sep 2008 20:31:27 +0200 Subject: RE: [Volvo303] Re: Fuel Cat alternative to rebuilt head Reply-To: Volvo303@yahoogroups.com >sounds like snake oil to me... > >http://pigeonsnest.co.uk/stuff/crapstuff/fuelcat.html > I totally agree, a Volvo B30 that has run on leaded fuel all its life years will have no problem at all driving on unleaded as long as it has sufficient octane. Fuel cat or not. You might experience some valve seat recession i you drive it very fast (full throttle) but as long as you keep an eye on valve clearances (mostly on exhaust valves) there is no risk at all. It all depends on the exhaust valve temperature, if you increase play a little it has more time too cool down against the head. When driving on LPG the Volvo B30/B20/B18 engines have quite a lot valve seat recession (needs adjustment every 1500 km fast driving), on unleaded just a little (needs adjusting every 5000 km fast driving) and if you convert it to E85 (ethanol) you will not experience any VSR at all. /Aryan -- ------------------------------------------------------------------ Aryan Schmitz http://www.123ignition.se/ aryan.schmitz@korridor.se Tel +46 8 720 19 40 Aspövägen 27 Fax +46 8 720 41 60 SE-125 40 ÄLVSJÖ GSM +46 70 749 66 84 Sweden ------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------
