I thought the H150F replaced the H55F in the 70 series? Not sure the date though. The 2002 78 series has the H150F behind the 1HD-FTE. The 1HZ powered HZJ78/79 then and still uses the R151F with the split t/case. Yes the HDJ78/79 uses the H150F, but that was not your question. The FZJ75 & 78/79 also used the H150F and HF1A. I'm pretty sure Toyota went to the H150F for the 1HZ in the 7* series sometime after '95??? Dave Tay has a 1HZ that is pre-78/79 series that doesn't have the H55F. Nott sure if it has the H150F or the H151F. > The 1HZ powered HZJ78/79 then and still uses the R151F with > the split t/case. > > Yes the HDJ78/79 uses the H150F, but that was not your > question. The FZJ75 & 78/79 also used the H150F and HF1A. True, I got ahead of myself. That 1HZ was from a '97 HZJ80 and it has an H150f tranny and HF1A transfer. The FZJ7x always had the H151f from the beginning and the diesel 7x series didn't get the large tranny until the HDJ78/79 in 2002. it goes like this: FZJxx = H151f HZJ80 = H150f HDJ80 = H151f HZJ7x = H55f until 2000 then R151f HDJ7x= H150f Somebody correct me if I'm wrong I don't think the H15x was ever mated to the 60/70 style split transfer. That 1HZ was from a '97 HZJ80 and it has an H150f > tranny and HF1A transfer. So, your 1HZ/H150F came out of an HZJ80? For some reason I thought it came out of a 7# series. > The FZJ7x always had the H151f from the beginning and the diesel 7x > series didn't get the large tranny until the HDJ78/79 in 2002. Isn't the H150F and the H151F basicly the same case, just different gearing? > HZJ7x = H55f until 2000 then R151f I thought is was 1999??? > HDJ7x= H150f > Somebody correct me if I'm wrong I think a good combination would be the 1HD-T/H150F. That combo would give you a final ratio similar to the H55F/split-case combo: H150F 1st gear - 4.529 H150F t'case low range - 2.488 Final ratio - 11.268152 H55F 1st gear - 4.843 H55F t'case low range - 2.296 Final ratio - 11.119528 Now my question is, will the 1HD-T bolt up to the H150F? I like the torque range of the 1HD-T better than the 1HD-FT(E). The former reaches maximum torque at 2000 rpm, were the latter reaches max torque at 2500 rpm. Plus, I like the non-electronic injection of the 1HD-(F)T, but the 1HD-T reaches max torque at a higher rpm. The HDJ78/79 version may have the larger clutch and the coarse input spline. I'd be happy enough with a 1HD-T /H151 if I can get my hands on the combination., LOL. But I imagine the H150f would bolt up to the 1HZ as the bellhousing and the engine blocks are the same. I believe the HZJ80 has a smaller clutch than the turbo diesel though. The 1997 HZJ75 came from the factory with the H55F behind the 1HZ. Honestly I can't recall what the FZJ75 used, but the FZJ78/79 uses the H150F, just like the HDJ 78/79's. > > Isn't the H150F and the H151F basicly the same case, just > different gearing? Yes, different 1st and 2nd ratios, but depending on application the input shaft changes too. Most H150F's were found in HZJ80's and so used the smaller fine spline input shaft to suit the smaller diameter clutch. > > HZJ7x = H55f until 2000 then R151f > > I thought is was 1999??? When ever the 78/79 series was released, I recall it around the same time as the 100 series was released in 1998. Just keep in mind that any HF1A or HF2A from behind an R151F will not interchange with one from the larger H15xF boxes. ;-) > I think a good combination would be the 1HD-T/H150F. Some locals did a 1HZ to 1HD-T conversion recently and used the same H150F box, only because finding a manual flywheel for the 1HD-T was impossible, so fitted a HD version of the smaller clutch. Apparently all who have driven like the lower 1st and 2nd gears. > > Now my question is, will the 1HD-T bolt up to the H150F? Yes! > I like the torque > range of the 1HD-T better than the 1HD-FT(E). Tuning will make either of the later engines meet or exceed the 1HD-T. Regards, Greg Goulden 2000 HDJ105 Melb. AU.
