I just spent 10 hours replacing the heater core on my '89 4Runner= (had to buy a factory core =3D $250). Remove 90% of dashboard and the pul= l heater box - a great time sink! I looked at the FZJ80 and decided I'd rather NEVER do a heater core on that= truck. So, In case there was some electrical action that was busy eating = away at the heater core, I tested the voltage between the battery ground po= st (negative probe goes here) and the radiator filler neck (positive probe)= . It read .25-.3 volts. This is high! Various organizations say that it = should read .10vdc or less. I tested my '89 4Runner and it was zero volts. Could a few '80 owners do this test and let me know what voltage you see? = The 'fix' is to start pulling fuses until you get a zero (or very low) volt= age reading, and that is the circuit that has a poor ground.
