It's a 1970 but has a 75 4 speed tranny and tcase. It has that drum brake setup on the tcase. You guys are going to have to bear with me for awhile. This is my first Cruiser. It sure is fun though. Welcome! My recommendation would be to go ahead and take the drum off. This will help you understand just how the brake works, plus you can check for gear oil leaks and the condition of the shoes. If you think this is too much work, it would probably be best to own something with a warrantee. The parking brake is adjusted (at least on my 71) by a nut that turns a cam against the shoe. The nut pokes thru the p-brake case. Have fun! Word of experience here, if the shoes appear to be in good condition, and you still can not get the adjustment tight enough, replace the cable. These cables do stretch over the years and a new cable will restore the ability to adjust the brake. ===== Floyd Bufkin Ault,Colorado,USA 70 FJ40, 350, SM420 "Shasta" "Let's Roll" From: Chris Kantarjiev Message-Id: <200212311709.gBVH9Xd11635@bosphorus.dimebank.com> To: landcruisers@birfield.com Subject: Re: [LCML] Parking brake adjustment Reply-To: landcruisers@birfield.com Date: Tue, 31 Dec 2002 09:09:33 -0800 (PST) There's a nut on the "back" of the parking brake drum - that is, towards the tcase. It's pretty obvious when you get under there. The thing that was non-obvious to me is that you turn it CCW to make it tighter! This had apparently been non-obvious to the previous owner, too, since it was adjusted all the way CW. The good news about that was that none of the parts were worn :-)
