Not that anybody really cares but: A lady friend of mine wanted to purchase a 4x4 or maybe a convertible. She does well enough that she can pretty much buy what she wants so we test drive a few convertible cars and all the big SUV's. We go over all of the Cruiser options from older restored trucks to new Lexus's. She couldn't make up her mind. After not seeing her for a few days, she calls up and say," You have to come over and see what I got!" I say, "An fj 40!" (I knew better). Nope. "A new Lexus?" (More her speed) Nope. I guess a few more trucks and I'm wrong every time. So I guess the cars. "M3? S4? Etc." Nope.. none of the above. Now I'm confused. Not one of all the Cruisers we discussed or the vehicles we drove did she buy. Finally she blurts out..."A JEEP RUBICON!" (I'm glad I was on the phone, it was easier to fake the excitement.) NOT ONCE DID I MENTION THAT THING! I may be wrong, but I think women ask men's advice for the sole purpose of ignoring it. The good part is, I get to thrash a brand new Heep with 3 miles on it tonight. It'll be the only dirt it ever sees. From: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Dominic_von_St=F6sser?= Subject: Re: [LCML] Oh well.. It'll be the only dirt it ever sees. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction... This morning a man named Dudley comes into my office. My colleague mentions that I know a bit about 4x4s, and he might ask me for advice. Dudley asks me what I would recommend as a proper, hardworking offroad vehicle capable of towing an offroad caravan trailer where he might want to go. Erm, that's easy. "Buy yourself a diesel Land Cruiser pickup," sez I. Dudley frowns, and replies, "I was hoping you'd say Jeep Cherokee Sport (Jeep Liberty in the US) with a nice 4.7 engine..." Now *I* am forced to frown, and say, "Sorry, Dudley, but I thought you said that you'd go into the bush...I'd never in good conscience recommend anything from DaimlerChrysler for that purpose." He nods, somewhat sadly, but seems resigned to see the wisdom. Turns out that Dudley had been resisting Cruisers for a while; he's a born Land Roverian apparently, but has realised that he needs to move on. Everyone he's asked has said, "Cruiser" to him, except for a certain personage who recommended a Mitsu Pajero; however this fellow knows a lot more about Linux than he does about 4x4s, so his advice on this matter is suspect. I guess what I'm saying is that we win some, we lose some. Scott's friend bought a Jeep, but on the same day Dudley did not. I'd call it even. Since this is a family list, I'll refrain from comments about "faking it"!!! > I may be wrong, but I think women ask men's advice for the sole purpose of > ignoring it. Ya may get flamed for saying it, but many times that's exactly what happens!!!! > The good part is, I get to thrash a brand new Heep with 3 miles on it > tonight. It'll be the only dirt it ever sees. Scott, where will said thrashing take place? I'd love to come watch but distance, along with my ever-more-urgent-need to get all of these dern heater hoses back on my trail truck and the radiator in and the Mean Green alternator back in and the Tuffy console I got for Christmas installed and all the camping gear out, cleaned & packed before leaving Tue. afternoon, (pauses here to take deep breath) will probably make photos a disturbingly deficient though totally necessary second alternative. In 3 months it couldn't fit in the X5. So, first it was big SUV. Then it was a used 4wd pickup and a S4 convertible. Along with the Heep she bought a quad cab Dakota for the dog. She made some salesman happy. I'll get her into a Cruiser yet. :-/ From: "Scott Zimmermann" To: Subject: RE: [LCML] Oh well..
