Rick Donelly: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=67288&highlight=fj28 some history: pre 1960, ?? there was a FJ28 wagon, never even thought of in the US. 1960 both the FJ28 (2 door) and FJ35 (4 door) were made in limited quantities (both have FJ25 grills, centered axles, 4sp tranny). 1961, the FJ43'LV' (2 door, less than 1 year production) and FJ45'LV' were introduced (world market). Both bodies corrugated side panels, made by Gifu Body (NOT TOYOTA). There was also a 43 soft top that was a 96" wb 40 series. 1963-1967 US delivered FJ45 wagons ('LV' left hand vehicle). Discontinued upon the arrival of the comfy FJ55 in July/Nov 1967. (note, original trucks have the archaic drivelines of the early-mid 60s, poor wiring, spartan interior). 1968 (ish) world market the 45 troopie introduced. removable top, two front doors, like a long, long 40. Most troopies in the US are right hand drive aussie models, only 3-4 (I know of) were lhd central american spec. NONE were ever delivered to the US showrooms. Many are 2H powered, one is 2F, one is being converted to vortec/tbi (J Boltrek). I have seen a couple for sale in the $17,000-$24,000 range which is $10,000 too much for what the truck is. There are also 43/46 hard tops (96" wb) which were made into the 1980's but those are even more scarce in the US. Asking for a rust free (and original paint) 45 wagon ('63-'67) is a ridiculous question. about 130 still exist, and 75% of those are parts trucks. 10 are on the road at any one time- most are projects that get passed from owner to owner. TLC has done 3 and I believe another is under construction- but these are $50,000 trucks (maybe worth it?, warranty, a/c, new driveline...a new car in an old shell). Parts are scarce (having parted 13 of them I was the source-now mostly gone). Stock ones are hideous to drive. Poor steering, 3sp on tree, weak engine, 4w drums non power, and old tired suspensions. A complete overhaul to new spec is needed. Frankly, nothing of the mechanics or electrical save the wiper motor should be rescued. Unlike FJ40's which they made and sold 10 times the number of wagons per any year (and also produced from 1961-1983 in US) you don't have that choice in the 45 herd to pick from. Guys with nice ones know what they have. The 1990's made it know to 99% of the US population what values of LC's would bring. Although not as outrageous as long wheel base pick ups (up to $18,000 for unrestored identical vintage!-and are FAR MORE COMMON) the prices on wagons did climb. Going rate for standard issue is $3,500-$6,000 with clean trucks even higher (I sold my last solid truck for $7,000 minus driveline, bodywork was done, but needed all the other details)
