He is having problems getting registered to the group... So I will post the question for him. He asks: Ok, I know the 1HD-T, 1HD-FT, and the 1HD-FTE came with the H150F trannys. What transmission came with the 1HZ? I've read on the LCML archives that the early engines came with the H55F and later models had the H150F. But that info I believe came from a US member, not somebody with a first hand account. Also, do these engines/trannys have the same split t'cases we have here in the states? What I really want to know is if the 3/4/5 speed split cases will bolt up to the H150F transmissions? The first reason I ask is eventually I want to get one of these engines to drop in an FJ60. I currently don't own a 60, but I hope to be getting one by next summer. Secondly, the reason for wanting to know about the t'case is I want to also put a crawl box/doubler or what ever their call on it too. I know marlin is developing a Toybox for the H55F. I know I'm probably dreaming. This what happens when someone has too much time on his hands! Do you know if the t'case that came with the FJ60, with 2.276 gearing, could be mated with the H55F? According to the FAQ you gave me, the H55F has 1.959 low rang gearing. I know 1.959 vs. 2.276 is much of a difference, but it all helps. I will pass the information back to him. Right and wrong, the 1HD-T and 1HD-FT came with the H151 in the 80 series (HDJ80 - only vehicle in OZ to use these motors AFAIK). The 1HD-FTE comes with the H151 in the HDJ100, but the HDJ78 and HDJ79 use the H150. The TD wagons use the HF2A full time t/case, the TD commercial 7* series used the HF1A part time t/case. The major difference between the H150 and H151 is that the H150 has lower 1st and 2nd gear ratios. In 80 series application the H151 had the larger fine spline input shaft and 12" clutch, the H150 uses a smaller fine spline input and 10" clutch. I have yet to see the H150 for the 1HD-FTE 7* series, but I would guess it would share the same 12" clutch and larger input shaft. H150 was used in 1HZ and 3F, the H151 was used with 1HD-(F)T and 1FZ-FE 80 series. |What transmission came with the |1HZ? The later 1HZ powered HZJ78 & 79 used the lighter R151 gearbox and split t/case. The HZJ105 used the R151 with the HF2A full time t/case. |What I really want to know is if the 3/4/5 speed split |cases will bolt up to the H150F transmissions? I know marlin is |developing a Toybox for the H55F. AFAIK, the split t/case will not fit, and to the best of my knowledge were never used in that combination from the factory. The HF*A t/cases bolt to the rear of the gearcases by simply slipping onto the output spline and fitting the 6 bolts, which is easily done in vehicle, as opposed to the split case which has to be diassembled to remove. If you are going to source the 1HZ motor, purchase the whole lot? The HF*A t/cases are 2.488:1 low ratio. (Marks Adapter's over here are in the process of releasing a 205% reduction unit which bolts to the rear of all the L/C t/cases. http://www.marks4wd.com/Cruiser-Crawler.htm ) |I know I'm probably dreaming. I know 1.959 vs. 2.276 is much of a |difference, but it all helps. The split t/case with lower gearing *apparently* can be used, at least the inner bits can be retro fitted. I have no direct experience, but I own a modified 40 series, in which the previous owner fitted a 60 series 4 speed & split t/case, which contains the SWB or Bunderra 2.3:1 low gears. I have the ratted Bunderra case in the spares bin. With the abundance of std diesel 80's in wreckers over here, why not import a H150 and HF1A or HF2A t/case? Probably cheaper than buying a used H55 over there with the exchange rate, it's more robust, 5th gear doesn't shit itself and it has it's own lubrication pump. HTH. All of the split cases here are vacuum shift (except for mine). The H151 can be followed by a PT or FT case, it looks different from the split case so I guess it is not the same :-) >What I really want to know is if the 3/4/5 speed split >cases will bolt up to the H150F transmissions? I would really think this is a better bet than buying bits here and there and finding out later if they bolt up.
