There used to exist within the (gasp) Sierra Club (SC), an off-roading section called "Back-Roads Explorers" (BRE). This section of the SC enjoyed going out into the wild back-country and exploring, just like most of us on this list enjoy. I went on several of their trips, and had a great time. When the SC took the position of closing the entire Mojave Desert with their Desert Protection Act, the members of the BRE protested to the SC leaders. Their pleas fell on deaf ears, because the SC remained committed to closing down the desert, so the BRE members left the SC, and went to the Mojave River Valley Museum http://mvm.4t.com/ Attached to this Museum is the Desert Explorers, and they do a lot more than just desert exploring. They do all over California, Arizona, and parts of Nevada. And Mexico. Nice group of folks. Dana >>>>>>>>>>>> Hi all: Last spring, I met up with a couple of 70+ year old drivers in the Hualapai Mountains near Kingman Arizona. She was driving a Toyota Mini-Pickup and he an S10 pickup...They were pre-running a route for a club out of southern California. http://desertexplorers.org One of their main leaders is Neal Johns, who is 84 or 85. He had recently switched over from 77 Fj40's to Toyota Mini...said he was getting too soft...I don't know Neal's current status, but he seems like a valuable resource for the deserts of S. California and northern Mexico...real interesting person!............Ernie
