I see that Prazio sells them for about half the price of the ones offered by Aztek. Is this difference worth the price? (I use Kami liquids) Thanks. Like everything involving spending extra $ one's needs will determine whether the expense is justified. My experience has been the money you save with less expensive overlays will be eaten up in time spent spotting small circles from highlight areas of all your scans. The AZ42 eliminates this imperfection in the overlay material. But the AZ42 is also without anti-static properties, so that may be an issue to consider. This can be overcome with an anti-static spray and/or cloth if using Prazio fluids, or by using the KAMI drum cleaner, which has anti-static properties in it. I'm very pleased with the performance and now spend less than 5 minutes spotting scans. amadou diallo To: ScanHi-End@yahoogroups.com From: Jon Zax Date: Thu, 17 Jun 2004 09:05:05 -0700 Subject: The ScanHi-End Group Re: Mounting film Reply-To: ScanHi-End@yahoogroups.com I had no end of trouble from the Prazio film. It had tiny imperfections all through it that showed up in scans The Agfa material _C41 doesn't seem to bw available any more. I now use "anti-static clear polyester" part number P5-1114 from Morgan Graphic supply here in northern California. 916-368-4600 J.Z. Brought to you courtesy of Barleigh Graphic Design Ltd, home of Barleigh Stock Photography (http://stock.barleigh.com) Is anyone else using "anti-stat"? I often feel like I am on an island where I work and this list is great to have a lifeline back to the rest of the world. I have never used anything except antistat and as such cannot compare it to the c41 or other "expensive" films. I was quoted almost $80 for 100 sheets of 8x10 for the agfa...is that about right? is it worth it? First AZTEK offers two qualities of scanner mounting overlays. We are only proud of one and that is AZ-42. It was specifically designed and manufactured by us to be the world's highest quality perfectly optically clear product uniquely made and packaged for the scanning application. I now suspect that AZ-42 may be unique in this regard. We made every aspect when designing and pricing AZ-42 to make it economical it is about 40% less expensive than the now nearly impossible to get AGFA product. In ours and our customers reported comparison testing our AZ-42 product can also optically out perform it. As mentioned in one of the messages all of the AZTEK KAMI products include anti-static properties in the fluids. This means the use of the mounting fluid and drum clearer makes your drums absolutely static free. Therefore when using KAMI products there is no need for anti-static dust on the mounting film. AZTEK offers Anti-Static bulk economy scanner overlay material. Due to not being optically clear with the dust on, it also does not have to be as optically clear of a Mylar material. Therefore it can be manufactured from much less expensive materials and can be handled with less care in manufacturing. AZTEK's anti-static scanner mounting film is about 20% or 1/5th of the cost of the AZ-42. We do not recommend the use of anti-static mounting film to our clients, because it does not optically perform to the same quality standards as the equipment or the film being scanned. Yet a few of our clients with less demanding applications, like the very inexpensive value of the bulk purchasing of anti-static material from us and find it good enough. For example an applications where it may be good enough include only doing 300 dpi 100% scale 1:1 scans from 4 x 5 or 8 x10 to a CMYK presses. So we are happy to assist everyone we can. AZTEK's anti-static scanner overlay material is comparable in quality to everyone else's, ours is just less expensive. You can test the anti-static film quality. Do an optical 2000 to 4000 dpi scan (with a curve applied in the scanning software) of an anti-static mounting film and no film under the mounting Mylar. You can see either the dust particles themselves and / or the refraction distortion of light similar to looking through a window that is being hit by rain. Yet with AZ-42 in the same test, it is absolutely perfectly clear and has no artifacts. Best Regards, Phil Lippincott AZTEK www.aztek.com 1-800-GRAPH-55
