I met a motorcyclist in Windhoek a while back who chose to travel to Kenya via Angola, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia and Tanzania DURING THE RAINY SEASON. Anyone who's been there knows how bad the roads are. When I asked him what on earth he thought he was doing, he said that he did it because everyone told him it couldn't be done. He was riding in shoulder-deep truck ruts carved out by ailing Unimogs and MAN army trucks, knee deep in clay slurry mud, in some countries so war torn that there isn't much left. But he did it (had the pictures to prove it too). Inspired by this, I wish to be the first person to do the Devil's Road* in a non-4wd vehicle with no low range (in the form of the Uri). * reputed to be the worst road in Namibia; 100km along the Kunene River along the Angolan border which can take anywhere between 12 hours and 5 days; we don't need no steenkin' OHV areas... cheers - dom +----------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Dominic von Stoesser 1995 HZJ75 Troop Carrier | | TLCA #11131 2001 Uri Desert Runner Wagon | | http://kavandje.cruiserpages.com/ in pieces --> 1971 FJ40 | +---------------"Sometimes, there just isn't a bypass."----------------+
