(& RC-model portals) Reply-To: pinzgauer@yahoogroups.com While browsing this interesting add-on portal solution for Nissan Patrol, I notice that it includes a breather-pipe for the portal housing....how come I never saw that being mentioned for any other portal axle on the market? (despite meticulous factory breather systems on nearly all other drivetrain components from Unimog (that one even pressurizes the headlights!) and Volvo (not sure about Pinzgauer)) http://www.marks4wd.com/products/gearmaster/Gearmaster-portal-Nissan- GQ-GU.htm http://xrl.us/u9g4 (Link to www.marks4wd.com) Oh btw, I also found 'aftermarket' portal units for RC-models, with 1.5:1 ratio, and 18mm lift....:)) (never seen that before, not even on the quite 'spoiled' German RC- market (where even 8x8 MAN's are made, but alas, never a true Unimog)) (even RC-scale Torsen diff's exist(ed), my other favorite....:)) http://rc4wdstore.com/index.php?cPath=65 -- Bye, Willem-Jan Markerink The desire to understand is sometimes far less intelligent than the inability to understand [note: 'a-one' & 'en-el'!] To: pinzgauer@yahoogroups.com From: Rob Wyatt Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2007 09:39:19 -0700 (PDT) Subject: [pinzgauer] Re:Breather for portal-housing? (& RC-model portals) Reply-To: pinzgauer@yahoogroups.com Unimogs do have breathers on the portal boxes. The rear portals breath internally into the axle tube, the front portals have a small hose from a banjo connector on to the portal box to banjo on the axle tube, the front axle cannot breath internally because of the U-joint.
