To: pinzgauer_td@yahoogroups.com From: "David Dunn" Date: Mon, 05 Jul 2004 21:56:59 -0000 Subject: [pinzgauer_td] Electric fan conversion Reply-To: pinzgauer_td@yahoogroups.com Hi all This last week I finally found the source of all my overheating=20 problems... the fan clutch (viscous hub) was shot!=20=20 And as luck would have it, the ones used by Volvo are different (the=20 740 and 760 were the only cars imported into the US that used the=20 2.4TD engine).=20 I did a bit of exploring at a local speed shop and located a fan=20 that seems to be perfect ( maybe a bit of overkill) for my truck.=20 Manufactured by Flex-a-lite, the #398 fan pulls 2500cfm, and=20 installed perfectly backwards at the rear of the air tunnel, forcing=20 all the air through the fan. This is the link to the manufacturer http://www.flex-a-lite.com/auto/html/syclone.html My first test was to the local mountains where the Pinz never=20 ventured more than 3 to 5 miles without overheating....well, the=20 test lasted quite a bit longer than expected, I ended up doing the=20 whole 26 mile trail, and a total trip of 85 miles with the return=20 trip on the freeway at 70mph plus, and never had the temp gauge even=20 reach half way through the green band. 8^))) This is especially good=20 considering that the temps in So Cal were nearing 90 degrees and I=20 never babyed the truck after the first 5 miles.
