The procedure to use non-AF lenses on Minolta AF cameras

Minolta cameras after the 7000/8000/9000 era will not accept non-AF lenses, the shutter will lock, as if there was no lens mounted.

To use these lenses, one must turn the camera on, while pressing the following two buttons simultaneously:

RD-175 AV Drive/Selftimer

Vectis-S1	DriveMode	Mode	(SEL to return to default mode)

800si SubjectProgr.	AEL

700si Card Spot

600si ISO Lens dismount/release

505si-Super	Spot Selftimer

500si AV Selftimer

400si AV Drive

300si Flash Selftimer

9xi Function	AEL

7xi Function	AEL

5xi Function	Spot

3xi/2xi/SPxi	only through Minolta service (modification)

Remember that the default mode was designed to avoid the use of malfunctioning or not proper mounted lenses.
If you want to restore this 'fool proof' default mode after you used the non-AF lens, simply repeat the above procedure (with the exception of the Vectis-S1, see above).
In case your camera is missing from this list: check the Minolta FAQ for a possibly even more recent update.
