Can you tell if you have a >lemon before you install it or rebuild used ones cheaply? That is all I have ever used Chris. I currently have 3 high mileage used units in my vehicles that work fine. Using a manual you can check out the clutch pack height or a clearance spec or a torque spec on the axle to determine if it is in service limits. For some the clutchplates come as a kit and can be darned expensive, for most you can buy or make a shim, plate or spring to tighten them back up. Many of the plates are somewhat common with automatic transmissions or other similar clutch users if you really need a low cost source of parts (been there!). Often we (the tight budget backyard guys) just throw in an extra steel plate to shim it for well worn plates. I don't know if the S10 takes an Eaton Gov-Lock or not, but they are very fussy about clutch clearance because they are cammed into position. (this is theory, I have never worked on one) If you have to buy a complete clutch kit and then pay someone to assemble and install it, you may be better off with buying a new LSD, although the price on a locker for my van is over $1000cdn.
