AND .... though I have only a 2.6 l 4 cyl engine I can regularly outclimb my friends 4wd's, a 3L 6 cyl Triton ute, Daihatsu Rocky, etc. FROM: STU SUBJECT: Re: Diff Locks DATE: Wed, 09 May 2001 20:40:02 +0800 NEWSGROUPS: aus.cars.offroad On Wed, 09 May 2001 19:17:14 +1000, Steve Devine wrote: >I have a '95 model Ford Courier which I have fitted a Lock-Right diff lock >to the front diff ... it's superb, automatic operation, does NOT inhibit my >normal manoeuvring, make the vehicle steer weird, etc, but it DOES >definitely help in terms of soft ground, hill climbs, etc, as I have proved >time dna time again during the last 2 years, 60,00 km's across many >different kinds of terrain, including the red centre, Strezlecki and >Oodnadatta tracks, mangrove mud, western QLD and SA dust (Innaminka, etc), >rocky "mountain" terrain, etc. Never been on snow so cant comment on that. >AND .... though I have only a 2.6 l 4 cyl engine I can regularly outclimb my >friends 4wd's, a 3L 6 cyl Triton ute, Daihatsu Rocky, etc. I have lock rites front and rear in a C 1200 International. Dana 44 front and 9in Ford rear, 460 big block Auto trans and I have broken rear axles and never had a problem with the lock rites. Some people think they are no good for heavy vehicles, will this one is very heavy !! The truck is a little scatty on sand covered hard track when it is in 4x4, but it shifts to 4x4 on the fly so it is in and out of 4x4 often on any trip, and it always has been because of the notorious axle wind up it gets in the NP205 transfer case if operated on hard ground in 4x4. Front tyres are wearing normally but the rears are getting down, no scrubbing, just no tread left. LOL All in all a good investment, bought from the USA over the phone, company called Weddle Engineering in California and installed locally about 4 years ago. In the 13 years I have had the truck, the lock rites and the big block are the best things I have done for it. Regards STU BOND
