Went down to the local Pep Boys. Bought 2 12volt replacment horns p/n#40310. Cost was $10.00 per horn. Took off the grille and repainted it while it was off. Unbolted the OEM horn, used the same mounting bolts and bolted both Pep Boys horns in place. Wired them in series, used the handy dandy wiring kit included and boy, what a difference. It's loud and similar in pitch to stock but a helluva lot better. Sprayed black and the one horn lines up with the grille hole to boot. Dennis's suggestion was to run a relay and have the 24V lead trigger the relay. Run a separate 12V source from one battery, then at least you have no failure point that you would have with wiring in series.. Guess what, my 12v low-tone horn was busted....;(( Btw, for those wanting to Google: product name in the Hella catalog for this red 118dB is 'B133' (and German description 'Starktonhorn' or plurial 'Starktonh=F6rner', and the black 116dB (310Hz & 380Hz) is called 'Starktonhorn DL50'). Also, German product codes: B133: 3AG 003 399-801 for the red/118dB 12v set 3AF 003 399-181 for the red/118dB 12v high tone 3AF 003 399-071 for the red/118dB 24v high tone 3AF 003 399-061 for the red/118dB 24v low tone DL50: 3CB 004 811-041 for the black/116dB 12v set 3CB 004 811-011 for the black/116dB 12v high tone 3CB 004 811-001 for the black/116dB 12v low tone 3CB 004 811-031 for the black/116dB 24v high tone 3CB 004 811-021 for the black/116dB 242v low tone Willem (hmm, perhaps I should just add such a black 116dB/310Hz to get things back in line with a red 24v/118dB set....no wait, need two, doubling power means +3dB, right?....;)) Jan -- Bye, Willem-Jan Markerink The desire to understand is sometimes far less intelligent than the inability to understand [note: 'a-one' & 'en-el'!] http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/main_4x4.htm To: pinzgauer@yahoogroups.com From: "Willem-Jan Markerink" Date: Sun, 03 Apr 2005 19:03:20 +0200 Subject: Re: [pinzgauer] Cheap Pinz wimpy horn replacement Reply-To: pinzgauer@yahoogroups.com On 2 Apr 2005 at 3:54, dleerep wrote: > > > Group: > > After having people laugh at me for sounding my Pinz wimpy horn I > decided to put some Yankee ingenuity with the help of Dennis. In fact I have 24v horns in stock brought in from "Blighty". At the miserable Dollar to UK Sterling exchange rate, plus some profit margin for the shop they 'aint cheap. Especially when compared to the 12v masterpieces from "Pee Pee Boys". Best regards Dennis
