[CHAT] Copies to: dtlc@helios.net Send reply to: 80_series@sgiblab.sgi.com From Usenet (rec.autos.4x4): xxxxxx There's a year-old rumour that BFG is going to change the MT's, with new sizes, and siped inner tread blocks (but you could do that yourself). Latest is that the new versions are arriving at dealers. Typically a good opportunity to take the old version at a discount. xxxxxxx Anyone know more about this, confirm or deny? -- Bye, Willem-Jan Markerink The desire to understand is sometimes far less intelligent than the inability to understand [note: 'a-one' & 'en-el'!] From: "Christo Slee" To: <80_series@sgiblab.sgi.com> Subject: Re: [80] BFG MT factory siped? WJ, saw pictures in a magazine confirming your story above. If they are at the store yet, I don't know. Christo From: "Pieter" To: <80_series@sgiblab.sgi.com> Subject: Re: [80] BFG MT factory siped? I heard it the first time in Kiev (of all places). The guy there is really well informed and nows his way around. For example, he was one of the first to have Pro Comp tires stocked. The other, more recent, rumour was that BFG would add some sizes, including 35 x 12.5 - 16 for MT. I think this is also being comfirmed by press reports. And you now see the same principle (siped inner treadblocks) with Swampers SSR and also I believe with Pro Comp. Beats me why BFG is late bringing these things to their dealers. For those interested, I've attached the complete message at the end. Cheers, Pieter HDJ100, Minsk, BY > I am planning on buying some new tires within the next month. I'm running BFG MT's myself, and no complaints. Fine in snow, wet, dry or slush, not too bad on wet roads, scary on iced roads. You start to hear them above 130 km/h (80 mph). Biggest complaint in mud is the slick sidewall There's a year-old rumour that BFG is going to change the MT's, with new sizes, and siped inner tread blocks (but you could do that yourself). Latest is that the new versions are arriving at dealers. Typically a good opportunity to take the old version at a discount. For cheaper alternatives, look at Pro Comp, or, if they have your size, Silverstone http://www.silverstone.com.my/products/4x4/mt117ex.htm Myself I'm considering their big brother, mt117, as a dedicated mud tire. Reports are: excellent in mud and snow, scary on wet & iced roads, very low speed index (120 km/h / 75 mph). I was quoted an export price of $95 each (excl. taxes, mounting & balancing) for a set of six - they're directional ! http://www.silverstone.com.my/products/4x4/mt117.htm Finally, also look at Interco's Swampers SSR www.intercotire.com My other option if I decide against the MT117's, or I don't like the new BFG MT.
