Franco, I know that on the later model diesels ('94 +), there is a temperature sensor which is screwed into the alloy housing, which the connects the top radiator hose to the cylinder head. This sensors purpose is to turn off the air conditioning compressor clutch when the coolant temperature exceeds a certain point. This is to both reduce the load on the engine, and to stop the A/C condensor pre-heating the air to the radiator, which should in turn reduce the engine coolant temp. If your vehicle is running a little warm due to any reason (partially blocked radiator core? - internal OR external), this sensor may be cutting your A/C off automatically.
