Send reply to: 80_series@sgiblab.sgi.com I was all hyped up after watching the Aussies demolish Pakistan in the Cricket world cup early this morning so I went for a thrash down the Doncaster freeway. I did a few timed 0-100kph runs. run #1 11.7 sec run #2 11.8 sec run #3 11.8 sec Then for kicks I did it again but this time I took off in 3rd gear and left it there all the way to 100kph (no gear changes). run #4 12.8 sec run #5 12.9 sec Now I know that the 1HD-FT has a good torque curve but this blew me away. Just goes to show just how shitty the manual gearbox shift quality is. The best bit was a well deserved #6 back home ;-) Eager to see what it'll do with all injectors spraying properly.... (tried all different oils but could not flat change the cruiser box.) I also found if dont rev it over 4000rpm the syncro's have a better chance of helping get the next gear, but revving harderthan this made no difference to times anyway for 60-100 and 80-120 times. (1) Last Friday I had a custom exhaust fitted and the difference is quite amazing. A 3" pipe was fitted straight down between (yes it is a tight fit!) the chassis and motor/transmission/etc into a 20" long (could easily be 4-5" longer) straight through custom stainless steel barrel muffler and then on to the stock 2.5" tail pipe. The only difference in noise is a faint turbo whine when either I accelerate or back off. Not a problem for me. The motor is now quite happy to pull nicely from 25-30 Km/h for fourth and about 40 Km/h in fifth. Overall a very satisfying upgrade. (1) Absolutely unbelievable! Actually you'd be right It was just to get GC's attention :-) regards Mark Woods
