Full-time 80 T-case are not prepared for PTO AFAIK. They do exist with factory PTO-winch, but most other full-timers lack the removable lid on the bottom/side of the tranny. Our 60 does have that lid, our 1990 HDJ-80 doesn't. France and Austria got these PTO'd HDJ-80's....Austria even in Standard trim (Iceland got that too, but no PTO). Kevin, The winch drum and gearbox assembly would be the only common part. The PTO unit and shafts are different. Probably a fair bit of work/mods to make it all fit. Does your 80 have a facility for PTO on the transfer? Early Land Cruisers used a one piece aluminium casing to hold all the transfer and low range gearing. To the uninitiated, it was a bit like a Chinese puzzle to assemble. About 1980, the case was redesigned to a two piece jobbie. Sort of like a box with a lid. It became commonly known as the "split" transfer case. Assembly became less fiddly. The 80 uses a "split" case, but of quite different proportions than it's 7#, 6#, and 4# cousins. The basic gear train design and it's function has not changed from original. They are all constant mesh. While they are all capable of running a PTO, some of the later cases used a simple spacer in place of the PTO gear, and did not have the PTO cover machined in the side. Factory economics we presume. We see the plate on some vehicles but not on others of the same model. WJ tells us that PTOs still exist on 80s in parts of Europe/Asia. 2) Same case (as far as PTO capability is concerned). 3) Yes. But again, I note the anomaly of some having plates and some not. I have the old email in storage but it's not handy at the moment. Facts for everyone: Aussie Spec 6/1995 1FZJ Automatic. HF2A (Full time 4WD no viscous coupling) Mine has the cover plate mentioned in previous texts. It has a stampted number in it '50605546' I don't know if it is a part number or something important to our discussion here. When I lifted the cover what I found was a shaft about 40mm diameter with a bearing measuring approx 150mm diameter (sorry but didn't measure either of these) The shaft had a large countersink in it about 12mm diameter. The bearing had orange seals on it not that that matters. I took a couple of photo's but they probably won't be developed for a while. Not much else I can tell anyone about it. Hope we can shed some light on the elusive PTO and this end cover. What you are looking for inside is a straight cut (spur) gear. Without this the PTO cannot be driven. To fit the gear means dismantling the transfer; dollars involved.
