I've just taken two of those electric gismos apart in the last 7 days. One was the rear locker of my Hilux, the other one a rear locker on a 80's. Both suffered the same, the breather-hose had been pulled apart (it's a two pice unit), letting water into the acuator. For those in wetter areas I highly recomend replacing that breather hose with a propper one-pice rubber hose (windshild washer hose). It's also more relianble to seal the thing with some silicon kinda stuff, rather than using the original O rings. Cheers Runsi. Sorry I didn't respond earlier, but to be honest I can't remember exactly how it ended up going back together. Took a couple of tries. Surprisingly, it will operate with a 9v transistor radio battery so you can test it. If you apply the full 12v with it out of the truck, it overtravels and binds so you have to take the cover off again. Fun. >From what I saw, it looks like the spring is centered. Seems like the motor runs all the way to the end position as soon as the switch is turned, with the spring holding pressure on the actuator until the diff reaches a position allowing it to lock or unlock. ******* I had some trouble getting my new actuator to line up with the bolt hole inside the diff housing, until I figured out it had to be extended out all the way so I had room to adjust. Then it was held out away from the flange so you couldn't tighten the mounting bolts, but operating the switch on the dash pulled it in tight. Of course by the time I figured all of this out and remembered to lock the center diff first (how come my new actuator doesn't work - duh), the gasket gunk had cured and I had to take it off and clean it up. Second try was a breeze. -- ___/^^^^\ _/ ^ \ / `----- | /\ \ | \ | _____| \__ _______________/ / \ \ / _____/ \ \__ ______________/ / \ \ / / \_____ \ /|\ ##| ##########################/|\ ############ |#################### # \ ____ GLEN GUSTAFSON | # # ) ** Cinesite Hollywood ** /|\ # # motion picture digital imaging (323) 468-4405 # # A Subsidiary of the Eastman Kodak Company # ###################################################################### To: 80scool@yahoogroups.com From: "Chris " Date: Sun, 08 Dec 2002 00:01:48 -0000 Subject: [80] Re: Electric lockers dont engage Reply-To: 80scool@yahoogroups.com --- In 80scool@yahoogroups.com, "Todd" wrote: > Found me a 40th annv. every thing is in good shape but it was > owned by a lady who never used the lockers and I cant get them > to engage is this an easy fix or do I have to buy new ones from > toyota $$$$1500????????
