Don't believe there was an option of manual sliding glass (though that would be quite nifty actually, or even in addition to electric, in very cold weather, or as emergency backup). Belgium (& UK) had the same rear door, rest of Europe (Scandinavia) ambulance doors. No 55's in France/Spain/Italy, officially. > Front discs or drums? Drum/drum, applies to all European 55's....no PS nor AC either.... > Mine does not have > factory A/C or P/S but I'll try to find them.Yours has the > identification tag on the inner passenger side fender, mine has it on > the inner driver side fender.Your model must have already an amp. > meter, mine doesn't.Rear lights diferent too. '76 was the changeover-year in Europe it seems, from small/square to larger/rectangular tail lights. Also the first year in Germany & Holland, probably Austria too. -- Bye, Willem-Jan Markerink The desire to understand is sometimes far less intelligent than the inability to understand [note: 'a-one' & 'en-el'!] Date: Tue, 09 Dec 2003 21:50:18 +0000 From: João Luís Pinto de Seabra Rangel Subject: Portuguese owners manual p38, Portuguese owners manual p39 To: w.j.markerink@a1.nl WJ : These are scans of the Portuguese owners manual covering 78/80 bj/fj 40-43-45 and fj55 land cruisers. It shows clearly on page 39 the manual operated rear slinding glass: see-"tipo de abrir para baixo com vidro da janela accionado manualmente",that translates-"folding down type with manualy operated window glass". Compare with p38 with "accionado electricamente" that means "electricaly operated". Another interesting detail is that ambulance doors don't have any interior locking/safety system but the ambulance doors bj40s do, at least, here in Portugal. It is aparently strange that this manual covers the fj55, but from 1980 on the same manual started to cover bj/fj40s and hj/fj60s as well, although these were never officialy imported to Portugal by Toyota, beeing my hj60 the first one in 1982 and getting portuguese plates January 1983.It still has the old type plates with black background and white letters that were exactly identical to dutch old plates. Pictures going when digicam comes... Comments please! Bye Joao Rangel
