More likely to be caused by not getting the injectors serviced/rebuilt which causes the fuel to drip into the chamber and burning the top of the pistons they are an indirect injection engine (the fuel is injected into a pre-combustion chamber not directly into the combustion chamber) so what you have been told sounds incorrect Kev
