Mine is a 9-dec--'77 euro-spec (no emission-crap) in a FJ55, but I might end up with a few more FJ55's, of slightly different years (all 2F AFAIK). Please let me know if you have something for this particular model, and/or a list with prices for other models/years as well. Thanx a bunch in advance! Hi Willem, I am just back from vacation, I will not have any HEI's for a couple of Months . I am preparing to make 20 or so of the units. They sell so fast I can not keep them on the shelf. They sell for $320 usd. If you want , You could run Pertronix. The #1665 does fit alot of oem dist however I have found that the# 1661 fits the rest of the oem distributors that the #1665 does not fit. thank you, Gary From: william jackson Subject: Re: [FJ55] Schools of Thought: Points v Electronic Ignition To: fj55@birfield.com Reply-To: fj55@birfield.com Date: Wed, 3 Sep 2003 11:41:45 -0700 (PDT) --- douglas grey wrote: > My wife's '78 pig is currently wired with an > igniter, coil, and magnetic > distributor. You need the pre 1975 distributor because the pertronix will not work on the post 75 distributor. I run a vacuum advance distributor off a late 60s F engine with pertronix's setup in my 1975 2F engine. Been in there now for 3 years. Never a single problem! Excellent advice from Bill. Also, the '78-about -83 IIRC ignitor is "open" versus the later ones that are sealed. I've lost a few early ones but never ever a later one. If you can find one from a FJ60 or mini truck (even if it's 4 cyl it will work fine), it will last forever. After running these later model ignitions I will never go back to points again... Between the V8 and the 2F with fuel injection, the injection is cheaper and requires less modification. As far as power is concerned, ask anyone who has driven my 77 FJ40 with my version of fuel injection conversion. Some comment that it pulls like it has a V8 and still gets 17-18 mpg on the road at a constant 65-70 MPH (30 inchers and 3.73 gears though). This is also a port injecton system, not the TBI system most are currently using. A friend and I are in the process of making a system similar to what I have on my vehicle, computer, intake manifold, and anything else that may be needed. Hopefully sometime we will have this system ready for salein the near future. Work has been slow because of our regular jobs, but work is proceeding. Sorry about the long delay, so if you can just hang in a little longer. Kind of like the Orin case, good things come to those who wait.
