I sacrificed all my factory filters for other colors....8-))

The manual suggests you take another filter and hook them into
each other and pull it out. Bad procedure IMO, you not only are very
likely to get finger prints on the outside filter, but it also jumps
out vigorously, either to the other end of the room, or against the
metal hooks of the outside filter. Forget it.
A much easier solution is using the factory strap; make a small loop
from the thin section and hook it around one of the metal tabs of the
inside filter. Much more control over the movement of the filter, and
no chance of scratching the filter with metal hooks.
I mostly have an even more flexible Canon strap handy, works even
better.
