You definately need some daylight & darkload training before
attempting the real thing with Kodak HIE.
One trick I learned (which also applies to normal film loading) is to
keep on winding until the leader bulges on the far right, and pops
out by itself. Trying to pry it out with your fingers is highly
inefficient, since you need the length of popping-out film anyway to
insert it in the take-up spool. You can even try to squeeze out an
extra image by rewinding the film until it is tightly wound; but
don't forget to watch the unlocking pin come out again, otherwise you
create a (partly) double exposure on the first frame. Being Dutch
helps to motivate this procedure....;-))
(since you are darkloading, even the leader can be used as good film,
right from the first image....you are spoiling at least two frames
otherwise!)
