How did the water get into the reel? Leaky rear window? Leaky C pillar? Leaky wheel well? Tell me where to start. Please. I know it's not supposed to rain in Perth but I think a cruiser should really be able to cope with a few millimetres every now and then. Oh, and that infernal ticking at 1800 - 2200 rpm is getting to me. Should I be checking the bigend bearings? Should I be > checking the bigend bearings? Well, you've sorted the swimming pool in the quarters, now for "that ticking sound". I, and others since, have found this ticking sound is exacerbated by excess injection pump advance... I retarded mine to about 3 degrees BTDC with the aid of a diesel timing light and has all but elliminated the sound... I rarely hear it any more. This also had no effect on the performance of my engine. Find a mechanic / diesel shop with a diesel timing light and have them check and set your timing to around 3 or 4 deg BTDC. This may not cure it completely but it'll at least quiet it down. OR: Do it yourself... loosen the three 12mm nuts at the front of the pump and the 17mm stay at the bottom rear. Retard the pump by pulling the top toward the left guard approximately 1 mm at the timing mark. See < http://tinyurl.com/262qv >. Tighten all the nuts and go for a drive. My best example of the noise was driving through the Sydney Harbour tunnel @ 80 km/h which is the speed limit and the rev range at which the noise was worst, echoing of the tiled wall. It doesn't echo of that wall anymore :) Giveitago ! You can always put it back, and do have it checked properly. Cheers, Ernie Millen 11/91 HDJ80GXL 1HD-T http://members.optusnet.com.au/~ernie60
