After noticing the temp gauge moving higher than normal, I noticed the coolant level in the over flow bottle slowly disappearing. So into Mr. Toyota I went, where they pressure tested the cooling system for the entire day. When I picked up my truck they told me the pressure test did not leak and they were unsure where the coolant had gone and to just test it and see how it goes. After 3 weeks and about 4 litres of water I booked it back in and insisted that they find the problem as the truck could be 1000km away from home at any one time. Later that day I received a call with them saying that the pressure test did not leak again and that they were awaiting a call back from Melbourne for more assistance. I then received another call saying that Melbourne advised them to look next to the welsh plug near no. 5 cylinder and they would probably find a crack, and they did. So 1 week later and a brand new head, which incidentally they did have in stock in Sydney and my truck is back. This is a huge disappointment, as my previous hz105t had over 150000km and never a problem. This is obviously a casting fault in the head, as Toyota was aware of it happening before. My truck only has 60000km on it and is a 7 / 02 TD, I hope this info might be of assistance and for anyone who has a series 1 Td, it may pay to check your coolant levels. My mates had to be replaced at only 4000km (latest model TD). Unfortunately for him it was a 3 month odeal and he was without his vehicle for more than 6 weeks. Not a happy chappy.
