The torque peak of 430Nm does indeed not apply to a large range of rpm, it is pin-pointed at 2800rpm. Considering the peak of 360Nm@1800 with the first 1HD-T, and the 380Nm@2200rpm of the 4-valve 1HD-FT, this doesn't seem an improvement. However, the German report then goes on by saying that although it is technically a peak, the range between 1500rpm and 3400rpm is extremely flat. How flat? They don't say. But they mention that 'below' this flat range, there is already 400Nm@1000rpm. That is a frightening 93% of maximum torque....*below* the flat range, mind you! I proclaim this the Rudolphian understatement of the year. As for hp (204hp@3400rpm), it is interesting to note that max horsepower is exactly on the same rpm where this extremely flat torque curve drops off....yet the fact that hp drops off too means that torque drops off at quite an extreme rate....much more than the extra rpm's can compensate. And once again it is mentioned that the lack of a front locker is aggrevated by the limited articulation due to IFS. The suspension is compared with a 'flying carpet', leaving the RR air suspension behind in the dust.... As a cute Toyota-teaser on the end, they mention the existence of solid front axle & front locker models in 'third world countries'[*], as a source for grey imports. [*] with apologies to those on the 5th continent....;-)) -- Bye, Willem-Jan Markerink The desire to understand is sometimes far less intelligent than the inability to understand [note: 'a-one' & 'en-el'!] To: "'80scool@yahoogroups.com'" <80scool@yahoogroups.com>, "'100scool@yahoogroups.com'" <100scool@yahoogroups.com> Organization: Western Farm Service From: Greg Goulden - Western Farm Service P/L Date sent: Fri, 12 Jul 2002 10:51:32 +1000 Subject: [80] 100 series update for Aus? Send reply to: 80scool@yahoogroups.com Hi Guys...WJM & Bozza, Looking for anyone with any knowledge about the upcoming new 100 series for Aus. rumoured to be 4th quarter this year. Will the 1HZ still be on offer??? Will we still have the option of RFS or IFS??? With the introduction of new ADR 080, diesel emissions will be stricter. Here's some text from a truck mag I was reading. Seems some manufacturers like Mazda will remove their bus and light truck models from the market as they don't have engines suitable. And as the Coaster is currently powered by a 1HZ, it's likely that the 100 will need to be repowered too. "Toyota will be changing the engine line up in it's Coaster range towards the end of this year with a switch to a new turbocharged diesel to match the new emissions regulations. The Land Cruiser 100 Series and Hilux range will also undergo engine upgrades, replacing the existing models" Of course, the pisstrols will carry over..... Regards, Greg Goulden 2000 HZJ105 Melb. Oz.
