There are two options either use a Holden alternator or put a second 80amp alternator above the air conditioner pump, using the second pulley to run the alternator belt. Both these options require some sort of bracket to be made up. My question is has anyone done either of these or if they run multiple light setups what have you used to supply enough amps. By the way I am already running standard lights plus two driving lights. Setting up a permanent additional belt is not easy to make reliable. I tried with my magnum setup and never succeeded. What about fewer better quality lights (including upgrading the standard lights)?. I do a lot of country km's and find that with the setup as it is on the highway is fine but on the high country roads does not give enough light to warn of roo's of the side of the road. I drove my mate's truck on the weekend along Beverly's track and he has four on the roof and three on the bar plus standard lights the difference was considerable. He is lazy though just has second battery in the tray and his alternator glows red after awhile. The other trouble is he drops from charge rate of 14 to 10 once he turns them on. If I was only going bush once in awhile I would not worry but I drive to Dargo every weekend. They are rated at 120 amps, and should fit your brackets and wiring. I would imagine that the pulley would also allow the original belts, etc to be refitted too. Alternatively an auto elect may be able to source the 120A rotor and stator to upgrade your current alternator (80A on petrols?). Beware you may have to attend to the charge output wire and fuse/fusible link to upgrade it appropriately. Regards, Greg Goulden. HDJ105 Melb.
